Al Hiland is a former debater from Iowa City West High School and the University of Northern Iowa. Al coached the Waterloo East High School team to elimination rounds at the Iowa State Tournament in the first two years of the teams existence. He currently coaches for the University of Minnesota policy debate team and judges on both the National and Regional LD circuits. Al specializes in teaching students strategic ways to make up for deficiencies in resources and adapting to the rapid evolution of LD debate.


Amanda Bryan debated for Coon Rapids High School in Minnesota from 2003-2007. Since then she has coached LD for Apple Valley, Robbinsdale Armstrong and Blaine High Schools. She is currently a third year Political Science PhD student at the University of Minnesota where she studies American politics, judicial politics and statistical methodology.
